Whatβs Happening
Alright so A new permanent exhibition has opened in Pompeii that shows plaster casts of people killed in the Mount Vesuvius eruption, frozen in their final moments Pompeii, Italy β More than 20 plaster casts of victims who died in the catastrophic volcano eruption in Pompeii went on display for the first time Thursday in a permanent exhibition.
The casts, which scholars call βimprints of pain,β dramatically capture the exact position each resident of the city died in 79 AD. The reproductions were created plaster into the voids left bodies in the hardened ash. (wild, right?)
Curators wanted to βgive dignity to these people who are like us β women, children, men β who died during the eruption, but at the same time make it understandable, inclusive, and somehow joyful to understand what fr happened in Pompeii,β dropped Gabriel Zuchtriegel, director of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii.
The Details
Invented in 1863, the recreation technique faithfully preserves the position, expression of pain and clothing details of the victims, making them unique testimonies. It is still used of scholars conducting research at the archaeological park of Pompeii.
Pompeii is the only site in the world that allows the recovery of this type of evidence, enabling visitors to see the reproduction of objects that were destroyed and the people who lived and died at that moment.
